Bureau of Public
Affairs |
In addition to serving as a voting
member of council, the Mayor is elected to serve as the liaison of
the City of Butler regarding public relations matters. Press
releases pertaining to city matters are released from this
department.

Bureau of Police |
Overseen by Mayor Margaret Stock, in
cooperation with Police Chief Tim Fennell, this vital department is
responsible for protecting the safety and security of the citizens
of the City of Butler. The Police department has currently 24
full time uniformed police officers. The department utilizes
its equipment such as the 4x4 vehicle and bike patrols weather
permitting, along with a fleet of 6 squad cars. Acu-track is
used as a speed timing device within city limits to insure safety
and adherence of speed limits throughout neighborhoods. The
department is represented by the FOP lodge #32 which is active in
community services throughout the year coordinating several
different programs.

Department of Accounts
& Finances |
Overseen by Councilman Mike Kelly, this department is responsible for the preparation of
the annual city budget, daily supervision of budget execution and
the City's accounts payable departments to insure fiscal
responsibility to the citizens' of Butler.

Department of Public
Safety/Bureau of Fire |
Overseen by Councilman James Kraus,
in cooperation with Fire Chief Larry Christy, this department is
comprised of the Chief and 20 full time fire fighters with 2
engines, a ladder truck, rescue unit, Squad One, and fire safety
training trailer for children. Technology equipment includes
the Hurst Tool, otherwise known as "Jaws of Life", defibrillator,
and fire imaging camera.

Department of Streets & Public Improvements |
Overseen by Councilman Mitch Ufner
this department is responsible for the maintenance of City streets
and storm water drains. Principal tasks are street cleaning
and repair, traffic signs, and catch basin maintenance programs.
During winter months, the department focuses on winter weather
emergency services by effectively salting and plowing. The
department also provides leaf removal services during the autumn.
Residents can assist the department by not shoveling snow into
streets and by reporting potholes, clogged catch basins, and damaged
or unsafe road conditions.

Department of Parks &
Public Property |
Overseen by Councilwoman Kathy Kline, this department is responsible to maintain all City
buildings, parks, and playgrounds located throughout the city
limits. Parks include Memorial Park, Ritts Park, Father
Marinaro Park, Pullman Memorial Park, and Rotary Park. In
addition, neighborhood playgrounds are located in Institute Hill,
South Hills, and Island areas.
Memorial Park has several shelters
that are available for rent at a nominal fee. Interested
parties should contact the Office of the City Treasurer at

Office of the City
Clerk |
The City Clerk is appointed by City
Council and serves as the Chief Administrative officer for the City
of Butler. Such responsibilities are city purchasing, human
resource management, payroll processing, and financial
administration. Preparation of agendas and minutes for City
Council meetings are also processed through this office.

Office of the Treasurer |
The Office of the Treasurer is
responsible for the collection and accounting of all revenues
received by the City of Butler including payables, real estate taxes
payable both to the City of Butler Area School District. The
Office is also responsible for the parking permits on city lots, as
well as, processing requests for the rental of shelters in Memorial
Park.
Payment window hours are from 8:30AM
until 3:30PM, Monday through Friday. For more information

Office of Business &
Community Development |
-Zoning, Inspections,
Codes, and Building Permits

The Office of Business and Community
Development is responsible for the issuance of building permits,
inspections of construction sites, review of site and construction
plans, and literal enforcement of the building and zoning ordinances.
It is recommended that if you are
contemplating any improvements or alterations to your home or
business, you should contact the City OBCD office to discuss your
plans and determine if any permits or approvals by the City are
required. We recommend you do this before spending large sums
of time, effort, and money on formal plans.
Obtain building permits for
improvements to your home and be sure the work is inspected and
approved. A building permit must be obtained and the location
approved prior to the construction or erection of homes, additions
thereto, accessory buildings, garages, carports, fences, etc..

Code Enforcement

The City of Butler has adopted the
National Property Maintenance Code (BOCA 1996) to protect city
residents' quality of life throughout the city's residential
neighborhoods. Such codes enforce maintaining of properties,
structures and grounds for the health, safety and welfare of the
city residents.
